In considering the landscape, we felt that since the frontage on the main street side, which is the point of contact with the town, is narrow, it was important to draw people into the interior of the plaza, and we used New York's Paley Park as a reference.
Although the frontage is narrow, the steps, shade, coffee stand, water features, and other features draw people from the town into the square, providing a place of relaxation in the urban area. This space provided important hints for considering the landscape design of this project.

Therefore, we decided to plant trees throughout the plaza so that it would be covered with a canopy of trees.
Also, by creating height differences on the deck, the height of the line of sight changes as you move. The deck has an uneven planar shape, and while the deck stairs jut out towards the town, inviting you to the plaza, the coffee stand and FM Gunma side are planned to be a small plaza surrounded by decks on three sides. Furthermore, the rhizome is entangled with the deck, making the space even more diverse.
Rhizomes vary not only in shape but also in size and height, and they look different whether they are on a deck or on the ground.

The plantings focused on native species found in the surrounding area and species grown within the prefecture.

Not only did we take into consideration the genetic diversity of each region and the surrounding ecosystem, but we also thought that by designing the space using plants that make up the region's distinctive natural landscape, we could create a plaza landscape that is unique to this area. By using the various tree species found in Maebashi, we are trying to create a diverse space.
The tree species were selected based on those that were grown in nearby fields, and even if they were selected in the design, those that were not grown in the field or did not grow well in the nearby fields were reconsidered, and tree species were selected according to the characteristics and productivity of the area. The tree shapes were also planned according to the standards of the trees grown in the nearby fields. Among them, materials with uneven branches were selected so that the space created by the trees would have an identity of its own.

As for the shrub ground cover, the combination is changed to suit each location, ranging from ground cover plants that are only a few centimeters tall to shrubs that grow to several tens of centimeters.

In the rhizome, corners with relatively high foot traffic are planted with short groundcover plants, while in places where it is desired to gently divide the space, slightly taller shrubs are planted to create a sense of rhythm in the space.
